It was soooooo gorgeous outside today.
Woke up. Went to the bank. Then we took Paisley to the dog park to play. On the way there, we stopped at the new bakery just a few blocks from my house. It's an art gallery/bakery, but it will remain nameless. If you're in STL, I'm sure you could figure out which one. Anyway, I have really been wanting to go since it opened, and I keep missing it. But, today we went. It took forever for them to take the orders of the 3 people in front of me, and then when I got up there I got two cupcakes. Lemon with lemon icing for Scott, lemon with raspberry icing for me. We were saving them for after lunch, so we put them on the floor board and headed to the dog park.
Paisley had a blast playing with the other buddies there. Here she is (so dirty!) resting under the bench:
She played about an hour and then we headed to Chava's, our favorite Mexican place just a block from the park. The staff is so great about dogs there, they always bring them water with the people's waters. :) Had a delicious lunch then headed back home.
Scott went to run his errands and I cleaned out my closets. I now have several bags of clothes to donate to Goodwill, as well as a great feeling of a clean(er) house. Then I did dishes and picked up the innards of Paisley's toys that I'd been ignoring a for few days:
After cleaning, Scott and I went to dinner at O'Charley's where we both had the "cotton candy cosmo" -without the alcohol, of course, as we are both ani-drinking:
They brought it to the table as just the candy in the glass, then you poured the stuff on it. We had sprite and cranberry juice instead of the juice and some sort of vodka. So, I shook it up, poured it on, and then drank it. And licked the glass to get the rest of the sugar. ...I'm sure to unknowing bypassers, I looked like a real lush:
That last one's a low point in my life, lol.
So, then we went to see "Slumdog Millionaire" which was a very intense few hours of furrowed brows. But, it was done really well. It had some subtitles, which we all know I am against, but they were done REALLY well. Backed by slightly transparent colored blocks, placed more in the 'action' of the scene, and larger than usual in a typeface way better than the standard arial or helvetica. So, good job them. My only complaint was that the orphanage owner looked way too much like Jermaine from Flight of the Concords, and I kept wanting him to break character and sing "Business Time" or something. But, otherwise, excellent movie.
Now we are home. And Scott reminded me we had the cupcakes from earlier still. So, we tried them. And... Insert extreme disappointment. They aren't nearly as moist as the other cupcake places in St. Louis are, and for being lemon cake, there was no taste of lemon. Scott's "lemon" icing tasted like pure butter. The only thing that made it resemble lemon was the color. My raspberry icing? Tasted like a butter and whipped topping mixture. I hate to say it, but there is still half of both cupcakes left, and they're going to end up in the trash. :( And we all know it is not like me to ever do such a thing. But, it's true. These were just not good at all. Maybe it's because the shop is vegan/vegetarian friendly that it was so absolutely inedible, I'm not sure. But, I really didn't think you could ruin a cupcake. I mean, they aren't all going to be as awesome as The Cupcakery in the central west end, but even Jilly's (which fucking suck because there is hardly any CAKE in them, as they are filled with shit) knows not to mess with icing. The cake is the base line, but even a bad cake can be carried by a wonderful icing. *sigh* Insert heart break here.
So, that was my day. Sorry to end it on a 'bad' note, but i am here to bring you the news, and that was it. Night all.
