Okay, so this is an overdue update, as I have cabinets, countertops, and a sink for at least 2 weeks. But, I've been busy, what do you want from me? :) The kitchen is basically done now. I just need to finish painting one wall and find the money to buy my fancy glass back splash. Slowly, I will accomplish it all. :)
I am (basically) moved!!!! I have everything at the new house, with the exception of the things that will go in the kitchen. These are little things I can take in car trips tomorrow with Jess. We got all but 6 cabinets hung in the kitchen today (one is special order, and the others can't be set until the electricity is relocated by the sink). Best of all, my fridge and stove are out of the living room and back in the kitchen.
Another full day of accomplishment. Grouted the kitchen (1/8" grout is a huge pain in the ass). We also set all of the tile for the bathroom. It's coming together so well. I really need to bring my camera home with me. I'll have a huge photo entry by the time I remember to do that.
Another 6am to 10 pm day of work today. Worked until 3, then went to the house and worked until 10. What fun.
Holy shit. We all worked so hard today. I got to my new house at about 9:30 and started to paint my bedroom. Got all the trim parts done by the time that Scott & my parents showed up. Carried a bunch of stuff in. Then mom & I painted the rest of my bedroom and finished the trim in the office while dad & Scott demolitioned the kitchen and fixed some plumbing issues. Then we went to lunch, and went to see my great uncle for a bit. Came back to the house and we got all the underlayment (stuff that goes under the new ceramic tile to make a sturdier surface and a cleaner one too) in and screwed down. Finally, we all left at about 8:00. I'm getting really excited about it all now. I mean, we made HUGE progress today, and it's only going to get better through out the week. Because I have to start moving by Friday to be out of my apartment by Sunday, I'll be working 7-3 at my 'day job' all next week and then meting my dad at the house every day after work to bust ass and get my tile in and finished for the kitchen, foyer, and bathroom. It's an unfortunate fact of life that I'll have to live there, at least for the first week or so, without a functioning kitchen. I'll have the fridge and stove in, sure, but not my sink or countertops (and maybe less a cabinet or two). So, the first week or so will be rough (read: I'll probably live at Scott's), but after that, it's going to be so awesome.
So, with my closing coming Monday morning, I've been spending a lot of my time thinking about color choices for my awesome new house. It's been tough. There were two key color choices that I made in my current home that I'll carry over, but I have so many more rooms now!!! I'm going from a 500ish square foot, one bedroom apartment to a 1,500 square foot, three bedroom HOUSE. And that's just the half of the house that I'll live in. :)
So, Scott finally came with me to see the house today. He liked it, and seems to be more excited about it now. That's good. :)
Last night Scott & I went to dinner at Farattos, and I had the most delicious chicken and broccoli pasta ever. Then we went to Yucandu in Webster Groves. It was an excellent time. If you follow that link, you can read all about them. They're an artsy crafty studio where you can do everything from mosaics to decoupage to painting to jewelry making to whatever. Scott started on a decoupage box, and I made a mosaic tile. We'll probably go back next week to finish out things. I still have to grout my tile. I'm pretty excited about it. This was my first mosaic, and it wasn't as super awesome as I'd hoped, but it was neat to do and learn. So far, I've learned the very important lesson of looking at the back to see which side is the top (it has a little hole for hanging), because if you don't, you'll end up like me - with your tile hanging upside down or on it's side. That's okay though. Good learning process. You can also get larger tiles, and do a photo mosaic. I am *SO* doing this next time we go. It will make a great wall hanging to put in my new house. :)
