So many things to tell! And the day isn't even over yet!
Woke up today to a really pretty rainy morning. I like the rain here, it's really light, like a constant mist that covers everything. Had breakfast at a Starbucks, which is on every corner here. After that, we went to a neat thrift store that was bright pink outside. It smelled really terrible inside, as most thrift stores do. Then, as we were waiting to go to one of my top priority stores, we went to the Yarn Garden, which was my favorite store last year. This year, it was clear my tastes had changed. The store is huge, there's tons to see, but none of it was anything I found to be great. Just, ya know, yarn.
After that, we went to Yarnia, which I had heard about last night from one of the Abundant Yarn employees. This store was AWESOME. Their concept is so novel and outside the box, it's the world's only DIY yarn store. You go in, and there are cones everywhere of all different fibers (acrylic, wool, nylon, bamboo, cotton, glitter, and more!), all very thinly spun. You choose as many as you'd like, and give them to the owner. She then cuts off a bit of all three held together to tell you how much your yarn will be based on weight, as well as how many yards that will be. From there, she takes it over to a machine that looks like a mechanical spinning wheel kind of thing. threads each strand through it all and attaches them evenly to the cone. From there, she turns the machine on, and it spins the yarn up onto the cone. When the desired weight/yardage is achieved, the machine stops and TA-DA! you have just created your own yarn. Mine is 3 ply bamboo. I took pictures of the store and the process, and when I get home to my camera cord, I'll post them. But seriously, it was so damn awesome. Even Scott wanted to make yarn. Also, they are going to spin up my colorway again and sell it 'premade' because it was so pretty!!!!
Then, we went to KnitKnot, which we also went to last year, but I didn't remember that. Their store is really small, and had nothing noteworthy. Lots of expensive novelty stuff.
Then, we went to Dublin Bay Knitting, which had a great selection and super friendly employees as well. They had really cheap roving as well ($17 a pound!!!), but it was all solid colors, so instead I splurged for some cute stitch markers and one of those awesome yarn cutting pendants, which I now need a chain for. One of the girls there also introduced Scott to a neat video game, so he was really happy there.
Next, it was off to Rice Junkie to get some delicious lunch and then to Powells for extensive book shopping. I got some cute gifty stuff that I couldn't live with out, as well as a tee and two neat re-useable bags. Oh! And a book about cupcakes. Excellent.
This leads me to now, where I suffer from book neck and over excitement. I may have also tried really hard to get Scott to say he would want to move here today, because I so would in a heartbeat, but he's holding strong to the 'it's really far from everywhere travel-wise for work' stance. Which, he is very right about. :(
Tonight, we will go to the rehearsal dinner, which should be fun.
More yarning updates tomorrow!! Happy Halloween!
