Hey all. I'm home, and back into the groove.
Tonight was knit night. We met at Heather's house and so Stella came. Aaaand. So I finished the 1st 4 oz of Tammy's gift yarn. I am so excited to spin the 2nd batch. The coloring is different and will be a lot more exciting for me. But, I am really excited about it. I cannot wait to see it done, because it will be beautimus.
After commenting back and fourth with Ellie, I realized that my newer readers have no idea what kind of spinning I do. You may think I'm looking forward to exercising, and that would be a bold faced lie. Instead, my kind of spinning is taking tuffts of fiber like this:
I sure hope not. Today was a pretty good day.
Yep, I finally finished Heather's Birthmas Yarn!!!
Today I finished spinning the laceweight singles for Heather's yarn and started to ply. This has been my first time plying 2 actual-laceweight singles together. It has also been my first lesson of "plying two laceweight singles takes FOREVER". I'm very excited about that. Cause it means that this is a shit-ton of yardage. It's so skinny, even after it's plied! I think that it might actually be fingering/sock yarn when it's done. No way to tell yet, things always change after the twist is set.
Which website do you use that most increases your productivity? How did you accomplish the same tasks before that site entered your life?
Define productive... Ravelry.com has changed my knitting life as I know it. It's given me a social outlet, both in real and fake life, opened my world to kajillions of patterns, and of course, has led me on the fast path to spinning.
I love ravelry. Love love love.
But, it seems that sometimes knitting/fiber arts should be my top priority... Isn't that dumb?
In other news, I had horrible nightmares about my old job last night. I had a dream that I had to go back there and work. It was terrible. I'm so glad I don't ever have to go back. Good riddance to them.
In other-other news, today at new job I read all about the mortality rates of Swedish chimney sweeps in the 1940s and 1950s. As well as other occupational hazards. I also learned about all the terrible things that can happen to your nerves. And about all the complications of pregnancy in horses, including delivery, birth defects, and disorders in foals. Did you know that there is a birth defect that makes a sheep a cyclops? Crazy shit. I'm going to be an awesome addition to any cocktail party here soon.
If someone had told me, even as recently as New Year's Day 2008, that I'd have spent the day spinning yarn, I'd have called bull shit. But, here I was, spinning 4 oz of yarn today. No pictures of that yet, but I'll take some tomorrow.
Today was the first of my Turkey Day celebrations. We slept in a bit, then went to see Madagascar 2 at the theaters, which was pretty cute. I just love the little marsupial king.
